Manual maps were termed as a must have for travellers or newbies in a new environment. It was very rare to travel to a new place or country without having a carrier map in the back pocket. This was deemed as a lifesaver. Early in the 2000s without a map you had literally left yourself to get lost if you had not familiarized yourself with new environments.
But with the advent of technology, things were due to change. The technology was spreading like wild fire and wiping away any old hack that had been a norm for the generations. People had to be accustomed to looking at things in a more technological way and old manual maps wouldn’t survive this as well.
Google one of the most successful companies launched the Google maps which was normal manual maps brought forth in a more technological way by having a map in an app called Google maps. This would later be rolled out in all android versions of devices which was a subsidiary of google so it was done inhouse.
People were at first sceptical of this because it was something that had never been done before. People were not used to taking directions from an app leave alone a new app in the market. People were accustomed to looking at maps and figuring directions by themselves by interpreting the maps.
With time and technological advancement and as technology swept its way into the vicinity of neighborhoods, google maps tool over and it has become a norm to look at a map on a phone and ask for directions. And that’s why we have so many people visit new areas they’ve never visited before with the help of one Google Map they are able to familiarize themselves with the new environments at the click and query of an app.
